turkey day

workout: 10K in 58 minutes!

i slept in till 4:30 am. late for me! our turkey trot was scheduled for 6:00 so i had some time to call the husband and scavenge for breakfast.

this is our giveaway area:

IMG_0616.JPG

I finished off those thin mints and a big cup of honey with some black tea. nothing like sugar to fuel a run!

IMG_0617.JPG

(nevermind my chippy nailpolish…) the weather ended up being a little chilly but good for a run. i’m just glad it’s under 100*!

IMG_0624.jpg

after the run we had a little breakfast:

IMG_0628.JPG

IMG_0630.jpg

chocolate with sprinkles for me! x2!

IMG_0634.JPG

then we headed into town to pick up some after dinner treats.

the mall has an ice skating rink and a canal with real gondolas. (warning: blurry iphone pics starting)

IMG_0238.JPG

i dragged my companions around before we started picking up food stuff. i fell in love with these vibrams:

IMG_0236.JPG

but after doing the conversion i figured out they were $150, 50% more than US! plus i stopped running in five-fingers because they were irritating between my toes.

i also found some amazing smelly stuff:

IMG_0243.JPG

and stocked up on some wild mint and english lavender scents for my room.

IMG_0637.JPG

i wanted this chair:

IMG_0242.JPG

i thought it said 775 riyals, which is only about $200, so i started making plans to get it home. then i saw that it was 5,775 riyals :(

i also loved these little spoons:

IMG_0244.JPG

maybe i need to start carrying my own utensils to the dfac…

anyways, i had to grab a chicken quiche from starbucks to level out all the sugar from the morning.

IMG_0240.JPG

then we started picking out sweets for after dinner…

IMG_0248.JPG

IMG_0249.JPG

chocolate ganache with jasmine mmmm….

IMG_0215.jpg

and i picked up fresh flowers for my room.

IMG_0638.JPG

dinner:

IMG_0639.JPG

it was pretty good (compared to our normal dfac food), but i was already full of chocolates by the time we started!

after dinner we headed to our little party for coffee, dessert, and drinks.

IMG_0640.JPG

IMG_0644.JPG

i played cards until i couldn’t hold my eyes open anymore and then crashed!

where i live

workout: 3:00am 4 mi jog + 1 mi 100m sprints + 100m walking lunges (from hell)

this is it:

IMG_0606.JPG

these are my neighbors:

IMG_0607.JPG

somewhere in neverland i have a fabulous apartment, in case you read my house hunting posts, and this is my view (for realz):

IMG_0099.jpg

that’s a dolphin park down there by the water, where you swim with dolphins.

anyways, this is my room now:

IMG_0602.JPG

but my lights aren’t working right now so you don’t get the full effect. and the window is blacked out cause i sleep during the day like a vampire.

but i had a genius moment yesterday that i’ll share. see, i’m still online shopping like crazy cause that’s what deployments are for, right? so i order a lot of food from amazon now, like these pumpkin pie spice coffee creamers (totally necessary).

IMG_0599.JPG

the box was pretty much soaked when i got it and i’m surprised any of them made it through the journey, but i started wiping them off individually with clorox wipes, all 190+ of them.

IMG_0600.JPG

and then i saw my laundry bag…

IMG_0601.JPG

and into the shower they went! they came out clean (enough) and i shared them with all my coworkers who are also missing pumpkin lattes and other holiday routines :)

back in the desert

um yeah, it sucks more every time. i successfully console myself with online shopping though!

between lululemon and amazon, i hope my husband never plans on retiring. these were totally necessary:

and the biggest issue in my life right now is what item in the color “currant” i will be buying…

shennanigans

i woke up yesterday ready to tackle the world, or at least my treadmill and my very dusty blog. i did write a blog yesterday, but apparently it wasn’t working properly, so i redid it today. the treadmill was working though! as part of a new marathon training plan that’s still in the works, i ran one sub-9 minute mile. i’m trying to work on distance and pace at the same time so we’ll see how this goes.

IMG_2146.JPG

then i whipped up a chocolately banana spinach protein smoothie (delicious)…

IMG_2148.jpg

and we got ready for adventures :)

started out with brunch, it was a good one. grilled lobster, filet, and shrimps…

IMG_2152.JPG

beverages: strawberry mojitos, mimosas, water (necessary after drinking the night before)…

IMG_2154.jpg

desserts :)

IMG_2158.JPG

i couldn’t get enough of those little strawberry tarts, they were so good!

there was some healthy stuff in there too…

IMG_2149.JPG

mmmm, strawberry tarts…

IMG_2150.JPG

there was karaoke and dancing and balloon hats…

IMG_2167.jpg

and lots of beer…

IMG_2184.JPG

we closed the place down and headed to the next spot for cocktails and tapas.

2011-07-08 338 (5).JPG

2011-07-08 338 (2).JPG

so yummy!

we then proceeded to board a bachelorette party bus …

2011-07-08 JJs (4).JPG

and headed to the next bar, where their feather dusters were collected at the door :(

2011-07-08 JJs (5).JPG

but we had fun anyways…

I’m Back! (again)

i won’t waste time rehashing the past few months for right now, so here’s a little taste of how life has been…

i used cody’s muscles to move my treadmill to a more favorable location so when i came home from work thursday (my friday) i hopped on for some [very] quick intervals.

IMG_2139.jpg

while i was working out, cody was working on dinner…

IMG_2140.JPG

ground turkey tacos with my favorite spicy red rice, so good!

then we headed out to the souq to pick up cody’s new suits!

IMG_2143.jpg

and to look at shiny things…

IMG_2144.JPG

then we rushed home to get ready for the bars :)

DSC00111.JPG

fun times! and fish and chips for a midnight snack…

DSC00116.JPG

sweet chili sauce FTW!

DSC00115.JPG

here’s cody ready to dig in…

DSC00120.JPG

and then there was more bar hopping…

House Hunting Episode 5

First we went to a building I’ve been in before, but we saw some different flats. This building has individual owners as opposed to some rich guy owning the whole highrise, so all of the flats are different.

IMG_1143.jpg

IMG_1151.JPG

IMG_1152.JPG

IMG_1146.JPG

IMG_1148.JPG

IMG_1145.JPG

It was a three bedroom with a pool table in the third bedroom. Then they said they had a completely unfurnished one on the 14th floor. That’s pretty much the penthouse.

IMG_1158.JPG

Views:

IMG_1159.JPG

Bedrooms:

IMG_1161.JPG

IMG_1163.JPG

IMG_1160.JPG

And a completely unfurnished kitchen, so they would be buying all new appliances:

IMG_1156.JPG

I liked it because it was so high. The light wasn’t being blocked by all the other highrises. Plus it was brand new so that would be nice.

Next we went to see a villa.

Garage:

IMG_1168.JPG

IMG_1169.JPG

IMG_1173.JPG

IMG_1174.JPG

IMG_1175.JPG

Half bath:

IMG_1171.JPG

IMG_1172.jpg

They almost always have a weird little sink outside the half bath. Maybe in case everybody needs to wash their hands or something. I dunno.

Anyways, upstairs:

IMG_1176.JPG

IMG_1177.jpg

IMG_1178.jpg

IMG_1179.JPG

Up the stairs again…

IMG_1180.jpg

IMG_1182.jpg

IMG_1183.jpg

IMG_1184.JPG

And there was a pool shared with two other houses.

IMG_1185.JPG

Then we went to see another apartment in a 12-flat building, so it wasn’t really a highrise.

IMG_1188.JPG

IMG_1202.JPG

Check out the ocean views!

IMG_1189.JPG

IMG_1192.JPG

IMG_1195.jpg

IMG_1196.JPG

IMG_1197.JPG

IMG_1198.JPG

IMG_1200.JPG

IMG_1199.jpg

I like the floor in the foyer :)

House Hunting Episode 4

I got to see a real house!

IMG_1089.jpg

All of the houses have gated entries like this, and that’s a garage/carport on the left (it has a door and is covered but it’s open in the back).

IMG_1090.JPG

IMG_1091.jpg

Helloooo fabulous staircase, right?

IMG_1092.JPG

Swimming pool the size of a postage stamp…

IMG_1093.jpg

IMG_1094.JPG

IMG_1095.jpg

IMG_1099.JPG

IMG_1096.JPG

IMG_1097.jpg

IMG_1100.JPG

There was also a third floor with roof access and a maid’s room.

The next place was a 3-flat. That’s where there’s three apartments in one building, and that’s it. It had a garage for each tenant.

IMG_1104.JPG

And it was brand new, hence all the dust.

IMG_1112.JPG

Large oven, I can cook a turkey, she told me.

IMG_1107.JPG

IMG_1108.jpg

Jacuzzi tub!

IMG_1106.JPG

That’s the spare bedroom with the window looking into the garage :( She’s checking on a higher floor flat for me, I said I can’t have a room with zero natural light.

Here’s the other bathroom.

IMG_1111.jpg

And the nice swimming pool

IMG_1110.JPG

And I liked the front doors.

IMG_1113.jpg

The next place was a slightly older, more traditional Arab home.

Swimming pool…

IMG_1114.JPG

IMG_1115.JPG

And I forgot to take a picture but there were two front doors. The main one, giant double doors in the middle of the front stoop, and then to the left there was a single door, for the women, leading into a separate living room (also for the women).

IMG_1117.JPG

Ugly kitchen, I asked if they would rip it out and she said only the appliances :( That’s all I needed to see.

Then another 3-flat with a pool and a garage.

IMG_1124.JPG

IMG_1135.jpg

IMG_1125.JPG

IMG_1126.JPG

IMG_1127.JPG

IMG_1128.jpg

IMG_1131.JPG

IMG_1129.jpg

What is that thing?

House Hunting Episode 3

More highrises!

Here’s one I don’t remember what the outside looked like, but I do remember we saw a [dead] roach in there!

IMG_1028.JPG

IMG_1029.JPG

IMG_1030.JPG

IMG_1031.JPG

IMG_1032.JPG

IMG_1034.JPG

IMG_1035.JPG

It had a neat front door though…

IMG_1037.jpg

The next place was brand new and I saw three different flats…

One.

IMG_1038.JPG

IMG_1039.JPG

IMG_1040.jpg

IMG_1041.JPG

IMG_1042.JPG

IMG_1043.JPG

IMG_1044.JPG

Two.

IMG_1046.JPG

IMG_1051.JPG

And the third one was the same, but with a better view…

IMG_1055.JPG

The water and the big bridge, probably beautiful at night all lit up.

Then we went to another place with a really wonky elevator…

IMG_1057.JPG

IMG_1058.JPG

IMG_1059.JPG

Giant gas/electric stove and oven.

IMG_1063.JPG

IMG_1065.jpg

IMG_1066.jpg

IMG_1067.jpg

That was a no.

The next building had a lovely lobby.

IMG_1068.jpg

And nice apartments.

IMG_1071.JPG

IMG_1073.JPG

IMG_1074.jpg

IMG_1075.JPG

IMG_1076.JPG

IMG_1078.JPG

IMG_1079.JPG

IMG_1080.JPG

Up a few floors higher (same floorplan)…

IMG_1081.JPG

IMG_1082.JPG

And this one had a really nice sundeck. Most of the pools are completely shaded to keep them from getting too hot and too dirty.

House Hunting Episode 2

The first place…

IMG_1016.jpg

Kitchen:

IMG_1018.JPG

I love the fridge!!

IMG_1019.jpg

The great room:

IMG_1017.JPG

I should’ve opened the blinds to see more light, but I like all the windows.

Hallway/random sink leading to half bath (I decided this would be a good area for hair and makeup stuff)…

IMG_1020.jpg

American washer and dryer!!

IMG_1021.jpg

Bedroom, bedroom, bedroom…

IMG_1022.jpg

IMG_1024.jpg

IMG_1025.jpg

Bathroom (there were two full baths but I only took pics of one)…

IMG_1023.jpg

And there was a little pool :) (Just about every place has a pool but I don’t waste my time looking at them unless I like the apartments.)

IMG_1027.jpg

I saw a few more flats today, but this one’s my favorite, so the other ones can wait. I have homework to do!

House Hunting Episode 1

We headed out to a beachy island area per my request.

The first place…

IMG_0929.jpg

Right away no covered parking, just assigned parking in front.

My neighbors…

IMG_0930.JPG

Looks like they have about 15 kids in a two bedroom apartment, no thanks.

I did like the view though…

IMG_0931.JPG

And the galley kitchen was nice…

IMG_0932.jpg

But the bedrooms were teeny tiny :(

IMG_0935.jpg

IMG_0936.jpg

Moving on…

IMG_0983.jpg

Looks nice when you walk in…

IMG_0938.JPG

And then you notice that lovely black paint on the walls. And then the purple wall next to you.

IMG_0940.JPG

Hmmm…The view is nice…

IMG_0939.JPG

That big white tent is a shopping mall, could be trouble.

Bedroom/bathroom…

IMG_0944.jpg

IMG_0945.jpg

Each bathroom had a tub next to the shower, I just cut those out of the pictures, here’s another:

IMG_0947.JPG

IMG_0948.jpg

Not too excited about that one :P The purple wall killed it.

Next up…same building…much better…

IMG_0950.jpg

It was pretty much the same except the furniture was nicer.

IMG_0952.JPG

The view was not nicer.

IMG_0951.JPG

The closet was also nicer (walk-in in the master)…

IMG_0954.jpg

Here’s the last one because I didn’t think it was necessary before:

IMG_0949.jpg

I dunno which is better, the built ins or the closet organizer? Oh well, I wasn’t impressed with either of them.

On to the next one…

Larger (blurry) kitchen…

IMG_0955.JPG

No furniture (which is good because I have my own)…

IMG_0956.JPG

Oh yeah, and off the kitchen there was a weird 3/4 bathroom through what I believe was the laundry room but may have been servant’s quarters…

IMG_0958.jpg

Bedroom, bedroom, bedroom…

IMG_0960.JPG

IMG_0962.JPG

IMG_0963.JPG

And my favorite bedroom…

IMG_0961.JPG

Next place…

IMG_0966.JPG

I don’t like the table in the kitchen or the white cabinets.

IMG_0965.JPG

The bathrooms were a little different on this one (toilet to the right).

IMG_0968.JPG

But it had this awesome curved wall of windows in one of the bedrooms.

IMG_0970.JPG

Two of the bedrooms.

IMG_0969.JPG

And then the master.

IMG_0972.JPG

Next up: across the street.

IMG_0937.jpg

Kitchen:

IMG_0973.jpg

(It was the same as the other two bedrooms).

IMG_0974.JPG

IMG_0976.JPG

IMG_0979.JPG

Except it had a view of Micheal Jackson’s house…

IMG_0975.JPG

IMG_0982.JPG

(The one with the dome, duh.)

Next place! I wasn’t impressed with the outside, but the inside looked like a hotel…

IMG_0985.jpg

And the elevator was all glass :D

The apartment was lame :(

IMG_0986.JPG

IMG_0987.JPG

IMG_0988.JPG

IMG_0991.JPG

IMG_0989.JPG

IMG_0990.JPG

Oh, there were two apartments there…

IMG_0992.JPG

IMG_0993.JPG

IMG_0994.JPG

IMG_0995.JPG

IMG_0996.JPG

IMG_0997.JPG

IMG_0998.JPG

IMG_0999.JPG

Oh wait, another one…

IMG_1001.JPG

IMG_1003.JPG

IMG_1002.JPG

I have an actual table so that pool table would have to go!

Moving on, last apartment of the day…

IMG_1011.JPG

IMG_1009.JPG

IMG_1010.JPG

I liked all the white furniture but it was not comfortable, at all.
