Got up early this morning for the Turkey Trot 5K. When I got there, right down the street from where I live, there was a band playing (at 6 o’clock in the morning).

They said the t-shirts and race numbers hadn’t come in in time (apparently this happens a lot) so the first 800 people or so to finish would get a cupon to pick up a shirt when they came in. They said about 1200 people registered but there was no way to tell how many actually showed up. I personally knew a couple people who had registered but couldn’t get out of work. Due to the DFAC getting ready for Thanksgiving they apologized for the lack of food. There was plenty of Gatorade though.

Ready to start!

We raced all the way around the water surrounding the palace.

And before I knew it we were at the finish line!

I got in line to get a t-shirt cupon and they were all out! I finished in 29:45 and I really didn’t think I was going to be in the back third
I grabbed a Gatorade and headed back to my room.

The DFAC also stopped serving breakfast early for Thanksgiving, and I hear there wasn’t much to choose from anyways. After getting ready for work I set out for Pizza Hut. They don’t open ’till 1000, what are they thinking? Luckily Subway opens at 0600.

The line was really long with others who had missed breakfast, but I was starving so I waited about half an hour before getting my sandwich and finishing my walk to work. The geese were crossing the street, so I took a picture, and then they just stopped.

Then they noticed me and, I’m guessing, my Subway bag, and they made a run for it.

They weren’t aggressive though, they just stopped right in front of me like dogs begging for food. I just walked around them and continued on to work.

The fish were also out today. They’re huge, some of them are as big as my leg. They hang out in a corner of the lake right in front of the palace where I always see people feeding them. The PX sells fishing poles, even though you can’t eat them, might be fun

I stopped by work and ate my breakfast and they said anybody that didn’t have work to do could go
I went back to my room and had a luxurious 5 hour nap, right through lunch. Our DFAC was serving Thanksgiving dinner for lunch and dinner so I wasn’t too worried about it except that I was a little hungry. I got up and headed for the office since that’s where I moved all my snacks. There were a few people there “working” and they said the lines for lunch were CRAZY! We were hoping everyone would still be full at dinner time because we scheduled our “family dinner” at 6. Anyways, on my way back to work I passed a couple guys with their fishing poles sitting out in front of the palace.

I got mail! My mom sent me two boxes last Saturday and they’re already here!

One box was my subscriptions for magazines and coffee and tea that had gone to my mom’s house, plus some bonus snacks and stuff to add to my desk drawer. The other one was this awesome down alternative duvet and some super soft fuzzy socks.

It’s been a little chilly here and we have a really crappy window-type unit stuck in the wall of our room. There’s no climate control so it’s either on or off. It’s not cold enough outside to leave it on all night cause we’ll wake up in an oven so instead I wake up freezing in the middle of the night. Hopefully not anymore with my new blanket
Anyways, after getting the mail I hung around the office a little longer to try one of my new teas and watch a little We Were Soldiers before dinner. Thanksgiving dinner was pretty good. I had turkey, stuffing, potatoes, fried shrimp, cranberry sauce, sparkling grape juice, sweet tea, and I picked up a slice of pumpkin pie and a piece of the giant holiday cake they had.

The potatoes weren’t very good so I didn’t eat them. And the pumpkin pie was about the consistency of ice cream
so I didn’t eat that either. And the three layer cake wasn’t very good so I went and got a slice of yummy chocolate cheesecake and that hit the spot.
